Aotearoa History

Kia Ora Everyone,

Welcome back to my blog. Today I am going to share you some questions about the Early Encounters In Aotearoa.

The first European explorer to arrive in Aotearoa was Abel Tasman who came in 1642.  He called the land Neauveau Zelandia.

The next explorer to arrive in Aotearoa was James Cook who brought diseases, rates, pigs and potatoes. The chief Maori navigator was Tu Paia. They had musket (gun) wars which ended in 1830s. Maori outnumbered Pakeha 40 to 1.

Thank you for coming on my blog. Hope you like it. Feel free to comment down below and I will see you next time with another blog post. Byee!

  1. A very good record of events Michaela. The Musket Wars only ended just over 100 years before I was born! Yikes!:-)
